ABOUT EASA

The East Asia Student Association Lund is a politically and religiously unaffiliated student association. As a student association we’re recognized by The Academic Society (AF).  We exist to, through various activities, promote an academic and socio-cultural exchange between members from different backgrounds. We believe in human rights, equality, democracy, and sustainability.

 

East Asia in the context of EASA includes both East and Southeast Asia. This means we see East Asia as containing the People’s Republic Of China, Republic of China (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, Mongolia, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea), Republic of Korea (South Korea), Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, East Timor, Brunei, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Cocos (Keeling) Islands.

 

The reason this association is being established is that we see a great need of a platform for students interested in the East Asian region. The Asian region is growing economically and in population, and with this it is important to spread knowledge and interest in the region. At Lund University, there are several programmes focused in one way or another on Asia: the MSc programme in East and Southeast Asian Studies; the MSc in International Economics with a focus on China; MSc in Chinese Language and Linguistics; and MSc in Japanese Language and Linguistics. Furthermore, there is a vast amount of international students and exchange students from East and Southeast Asia. Apart from this, there are students who do not have a close connection to Asia via academics or nationality, but simply hold a personal interest in East and Southeast Asia. These students would benefit personally, academically and in their career from developing their knowledge and understanding of the region as well as meeting actors in business and politics in the region.
